I will also be in New York for the Other Art Fair, if you or anyone you know would like tickets please let me know.

I currently have work in the BlackSwan Arts Open in Frome Somerset, so if you are heading down to the West Country while the weather is still nice do pop in.

Glass Bead
60x60cm
Hand mixed oil on canvas

Part of the cobalt collection this piece references the British Museum’s blue glass bead, an iron age object which is the oldest evidence of cobalt pigmented objects in England. It may have been traded here by Phoenician traders across the med from France to Iberia and traded on from there to Cornwall by the Celts.

Here are the details of the show:

This year’s judging panel includes Michael Eavis, creator of Glastonbury Festival; Debbie Hillyerd, director of education at Hauser & Wirth Somerset; Steve Burden, artist and 2016 winner of the Black Swan Arts Solo Show Prize; artist Sue Conrad; and Johnny Messum, director and founder of Messums Wiltshire.
A record number of artists entered, with over 520 people entering 950 pieces, including paintings, drawings, textiles, printmaking, ceramics, photography, sculpture, moving image and multimedia. All the work on show is for sale with prices starting from £100 up to £34,000! As usual, visitors can vote for their favourite in the People’s Choice award sponsored by Frome Town Council.
Selected artists have the chance of winning a series of impressive prizes, including the First Prize of £1000 supported by Hauser & Wirth Somerset; the inaugural Sue Conrad Works on Paper Prize of £1000; the Black Swan Arts Prize of a solo show; the Mount Art Prize for artists in or who have recently left education to frame a piece of artwork; the Postscript 3D Prize for art materials; the Kobi and Teal Prize of a solo exhibition; the Babington House Prize of a mentoring session with Kate Bryan, head of Soho House Group Collections; the Friends of Black Swan Arts Prize; and one year membership of the new Black Swan Arts Guild.

For further information about the Black Swan Arts Open, please visit www.blackswanarts.org.uk or contact Morag Stuart at exhibitions@blackswanarts.org.uk or 01373 473980

Best wishes,
Sarah
