Glass Bead
Hand made oil on canvas, 60x60cm selected by Johnnie Messum, Michael Eaves et al for The Blackswan Open,
Cobalt Collection
I started this collection researching the Vauxhall Potters, Hugenot refugess who brought colour and new techniques to ceramic production in England. This research morphed into an exploration of the British Museum archives, exploring the relationship between people, cobalt and travel across more ancient time, taking into my sway Celtic and Pheonician trade in La Tiene period eeting in the Iberian peninsular. This is evidenced by the archaological find of a small blue glass bead in the British Musum found in the South of England. I was considering the way in which migration can be a conduit of culture and enriching ideas. The collection is made using pigments derived from cobalt.
