Hand made oil on canvas
120 w x200cm h
Made with fair trade indigo in oil, as part of the Captured Ships Collection using pigments recorded as being in the hulls of ships captured during the Anglo-Dutch wars. The reseach for this collection took place in the National Archive, with original 17C hand written documents which are kept in the Admiralty Papers, because the Privateers had to pay tax on the booty. Indigo at this point was a plantation product of the Southern states of America and the Caribbean. A slave trade product.
