Small work on canvas with hand made oil using classical era pigments, framed in bespoke floater frame
The experience of time in the period of the pandemic was bizarre. With no markers to help differentiate time it became disorientating. I made a series of works layering pigments on paintings in the order of time, trying to create an order, but also thinking about the way that this process of build up was rather like the laying down of time in the landscape. I painted wet over dry so that each layer is distinct and at a micro level could be dug out and provide a profile like the layers in the earth at a dig. What was interesting was the way the colours interact, the way some colours allow a view of the colurs underneath and the others block out what went before.
